This book was full of typos, poor editing and lagging story lines. I am sorry I spent any money on it.
It's good and well written. But I just cannot get into it. I like what I have read, and everytime I start reading it again, I love it...but I can't finish it. It's a unique story, which is rare to find. I recommend to whoever is reading this review. I hope you finish it. I'm curious as to the ending.
This is the most badly written book I have read in years. I would not let undergraduate students turn in writing like that. The author is in love with adjectives and every situation is always THE most intense, THE most heartbreaking, etc. Plus, the author never resolves the contradictions in the book. He grows up hating his family for their oppression and then lives with them once he's old enough to move out and later writes them a letter about how much love and support they have given him, love and support we have never seen. The bully brother never resurfaces, so we're never clear if he is included in the blanket forgiveness or not. Plus, every character's voice sounds exactly the same, and, incidentally, does not sound like any living contemporary American. This is pure sentimental crap.
Wow! I love finding LGBT novels online or at the bookstore. I've bought several from alone. I was directed to this one from a friend on Instagram. So glad I bought it. It was very powerful and there are points in the novel where I related to the characters. I'm looking forward to the second novel. I'm very anxious to dive in!! Great job Joseph!!
I gave this book a three star rating. It was very interesting and informative. You learned the life of some gay people. Slow in some parts but interesting in others. We all have to face situations and maybe this book will help.
This is one of the best books I have ever read. I could relate to so much of it. Very well written and takes you on a true journey of every emotion. I would recommend this book for anyone that is going through a hard time adjusting to there own sexuality.
...I found the book to parallel my own life, and I sure so many other gay men. It was hard to put down once I started reading it. I laughed and I cried. I was sad to have the story end. I could see it made into a film in the "Independent" genre . It was the author's first attempt in writing a novel, and I think he did it very well. Well done, and a must have for the collector's shelf.
